OSG’s main products are cutting tools used in machine tools, such as taps, end mills, drills, and rolling dies. Our customers, which are a wide variety of manufacutring industries, always work on improving the quality of their products and production efficiency. Since its foundation in 1938, OSG has been developing and providing high value added cutting tools that meet customer needs. We provide not only cutting tools but also technical proposals, which enable our customers to make full use of the tools and improve production efficiency.

OSG manufactures taps since its foundation and obtains the top market share in the world. In machining engines of autos and aircrafts, taps are used to make internal screw threads. Because safety is the first priority in manufacturing autos and aircrafts, the manufacturers use taps with high quality and reliability.

Many threaded holes are necessary to assemble other engine parts. OSG has 70% share of taps for engines made by Japanese auto manufacturers.

Crankshaft, one of the major parts of auto engines, has several long and slanted holes to pass through oil. To make such holes, it takes a very long time by coventional gun drills, because gud drills can cut only little by little.
OSG developed a new type of carbide long drill which makes a long hole with one plunge. With the excellent edge shape and coating which contribute to smooth chip ejection, this drill has achieved high production efficiency and received a high reputation among users.

Mold is mainly used for mass production for home electric appliances. Demand for molds of digital electronics such as mobile phones and PCs is rapidly increasing.
To meet today’s demanding requirements, such as smaller size, lower weight and reduced cost, OSG focuses on developing high precision end mills and proposing the fine-tuned cutting condition to each user.

While tap makes internal threads in a hole, rolling dies make external threads on the outer side of a round bar. Rolling dies comprise of a set of two parts.
A round bar is pressured from both right and left side by rolling dies, which have
threads on the surface, and then the bar rolls on.
Threads are formed on the bar by copying threads from the rolling dies.
Rolling dies are also used for shaping serration of auto shafts.

Indexable tool is used in the same way as end mill, and it cuts metal to make molds and process industrial products.
While end mill is used for mostly finishing operations, indexable cutter is used for roughing operations. In other words, indexable tools are used for roughing out shapes before final processing using end mills.
Indexable cutter has insert chips attached to a main cutter body. When insert chips are worn or broken, new chips can be attached again.
